LDA Moves to Expand Commercial Corridors Across the City
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has finalized a comprehensive plan to commercialize six major roads across Lahore, aiming to support the city’s rapidly growing urban development and commercial activity. This initiative is part of broader efforts to create designated business corridors that can accommodate increasing economic and real estate demands.
Public Hearing Highlights Community Input
A public hearing on the proposed plan was conducted at the LDA Sports Complex in Johar Town, where citizens were briefed on the project’s goals and potential environmental impact.
Key officials present included:
- Asadul Zaman, Chief Town Planner-I
- Azhar Ali, Chief Town Planner-II
- Senior planners from NESPAK
- Additional LDA officers and representatives
Officials assured residents that all feedback and recommendations from the public would be carefully reviewed and incorporated wherever possible.
Six Major Roads Identified for Commercialization
The LDA highlighted the following roads to be transformed into commercial zones:
- Sabzazar Liaquat Chowk to Multan Road
- College Road: Ghazi Chowk to UET Roundabout
- Defence Road: Bhubtian Chowk to Kahna
- GT Road: Quaid-i-Azam Interchange to BRB Canal
- LOS Road: Ferozepur Road to Multan Road
- Barki Road: Ring Road to BRB Canal
These strategic routes were selected due to increasing commercial pressure and the need for formal business-designated corridors to streamline urban growth.
Urban Management and Encroachment Removal Drives Continue
In addition to the commercialization plan, LDA enforcement teams acting on the directives of Director General Tahir Farooq carried out operations in multiple blocks of Johar Town. The teams removed illegal constructions and encroachments as part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to improve urban management and reclaim public spaces.
